Liliana Cavani turns 90 and celebrates on the set of her new film
Our regards to the director, who is currently completing her new feature film, The Order of Time
The Institutional Party has already been there. The one with Ministers, Undersecretaries, officials and parlor prezzeminaries. Then the one in the family, for sure. But true to herself, Liliana Cavani is spending these days of celebrating her 90th birthday doing what she loves best: a film. A very special birthday for the doyenne of our female directors. Only truly important female name immersed in an exclusively male pantheon. “A 90-year-old girl,” Pupi Avati called her a few days ago.
Liliana Cavani’s new film: birthday on set for her 90th birthday
Liliana Cavani, as we said, is busy on the set. She is making a film of the same name based on Italian scientist Carlo Rovelli’s book, The Order of Time. Which starts with a question: what if we found out that the world could end in a matter of hours? That’s what happens one evening to a group of longtime friends who, like every year, gather at a seaside villa to celebrate a birthday. From that moment, the time between them and the possible end of the world will seem to flow differently, fast and eternal, during a summer night that will change their lives.
“I have longed to do this, and I am grateful to the production that took on this responsibility,” the director explained a few days ago to Ansa. “The source book, The Order of Time by scientist-writer Carlo Rovelli, was of great interest to me, and then I had great actors like Alessandro Gassmann, Claudia Gerini, Edoardo Leo. (But also Valentina Cervi, Francesca Inaudi, Angela Molina, Ksenia Rappoport…, ed.). And the set was an immense pleasure. I live on the set, so I feel at home. I don’t get tired at all, the work fortifies me.”
